Eric Carle is a popular children’s author, he is noted for
his vivid colors and wonderful use of life lessons in his children books. Eric
Carle is able to use what children know and grasp and put it into a story usually
with the animation of animals. In my kindergarten class I will be able to use
these lessons to help the children understand things they should or should not
do.
The main story that I will focus on for the children to read
is “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” I will use this story for the children to
grasp the understanding of choice. The caterpillar has to pick foods that he
goes through and eat during an entire week. In this assignment I will have the
children pick out five of their favorite foods that will fill them up. Once
they have decided what five foods they will eat to fill them up they will make
a flipbook. Inside the flipbook I will
have each of the kids drawl the numbers one thru five mimicking the layout of
the book. This activity will help the children learn to spell and sound out
their favorite foods as well as remember their counting. At the end of the book
I will have them each color in the butterfly with the same colors of the foods
that they have picked.
The idea of learning what it is that they want over need is
a good concept to understand. This is also a way that the children can learn
that some of the foods that will be eaten will be more of certain food. They will
have to decide what foods they want to eat more of. This writing experiment will
allow for the children to understand the of writing of food and counting up in
a numerical order.
